The Journal of Community Service and Application (JOCOSA) recognizes that Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools may assist authors during the preparation of scholarly manuscripts. Authors may use such tools responsibly, provided that the use of Generative AI does not compromise the originality, accuracy, transparency, and integrity of the submitted work.
Acceptable Use of Generative AI
Authors may use Generative AI tools to support activities such as:
Improving grammar, spelling, and language clarity.
Assisting with language translation.
Improving the readability and organization of text.
Generating ideas or assisting with preliminary brainstorming.
Supporting other appropriate editorial or technical tasks.
Author Responsibility
Authors remain fully responsible for the content of their manuscript, including all text, data, analysis, interpretations, references, figures, tables, and conclusions. The use of Generative AI does not transfer authorship or responsibility to the AI tool.
Authors must carefully verify all information generated or assisted by AI tools, particularly factual statements, citations, references, statistical results, and technical explanations.
Disclosure of Generative AI Use
If Generative AI has been used substantially in the preparation of a manuscript, authors should transparently disclose its use. The disclosure should indicate the AI tool used and describe the purpose and extent of its use.
Example of disclosure: “The authors used a Generative AI tool to assist with language editing and improving the readability of the manuscript. The authors reviewed and verified all AI-assisted content and remain fully responsible for the final manuscript.”
Prohibited and Unacceptable Use
Generative AI must not be used in a manner that violates research integrity, publication ethics, copyright, confidentiality, or applicable ethical standards.
Generating or fabricating research data or results.
Creating false or misleading references and citations.
Manipulating research findings or conclusions.
Misrepresenting AI-generated content as entirely human-generated work.
Uploading confidential or unpublished manuscript information to AI systems without authorization.
Using AI to replace the authors' intellectual contribution and scholarly judgment.
AI and Authorship
Generative AI tools cannot be listed as authors or co-authors of manuscripts submitted to JOCOSA. Authorship requires accountability for the research and the ability to take responsibility for the published work. These responsibilities can only be undertaken by human authors.
Confidentiality and Peer Review
Authors should exercise caution when using Generative AI tools during manuscript preparation. Confidential or unpublished information, including manuscript content obtained through the peer-review process, should not be submitted to external AI systems when doing so could compromise confidentiality or intellectual property.
Important Notice
The use of Generative AI does not exempt authors from complying with the journal's publication ethics, originality requirements, plagiarism policy, copyright regulations, and research integrity standards. Authors are responsible for ensuring that their submitted manuscript meets all requirements of JOCOSA.
