Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools may assist reviewers with limited administrative or language tasks. However, reviewers remain fully responsible for the confidentiality, accuracy, originality, and integrity of their review.
Acceptable Uses of Generative AI
Subject to the journal's confidentiality requirements, AI tools may be used for limited purposes such as improving the grammar or clarity of text that the reviewer has already written, organizing non-confidential notes, or assisting with general language editing.
Prohibited Uses of Generative AI
Reviewers must not upload or submit confidential manuscript content, unpublished data, reviewer reports, author information, or editorial correspondence to generative AI systems unless explicitly authorized and appropriate safeguards are in place.
AI Must Not Replace Reviewer Judgment
Generative AI must not be used as a substitute for the reviewer's independent academic judgment. Decisions regarding originality, methodological validity, significance, ethical acceptability, and overall manuscript quality must be made by the human reviewer.
AI-Generated Review Reports
Reviewers should not submit an AI-generated review report as their own independent evaluation. Any review submitted to JOCOSA must reflect the reviewer's own professional assessment and responsibility.
Verification of AI-Assisted Content
Reviewers remain responsible for checking any AI-assisted text for factual errors, inappropriate recommendations, fabricated references, misleading statements, or other inaccuracies before submitting the review.
Human Responsibility
The reviewer retains full responsibility for the confidentiality, accuracy, fairness, and ethical appropriateness of the submitted review, regardless of whether any AI-based tool was used during the preparation of the review.
