Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools may assist editors with limited administrative or language-related tasks. However, editorial judgment, publication decisions, and responsibility for the integrity of the editorial process must remain with human editors.
Acceptable Uses
Assisting with administrative communication.
Improving the grammar or clarity of routine editorial correspondence.
Using AI as the sole basis for editorial decisions.
Allowing AI to determine whether a manuscript should be accepted or rejected.
Generating fabricated reviewer reports or editorial evaluations.
Uploading confidential manuscript content to AI systems without authorization.
Using AI in a way that compromises reviewer or author confidentiality.
Confidentiality and Data Protection
Editors must not enter confidential, unpublished, or sensitive manuscript information into external Generative AI systems unless appropriate safeguards and authorization are in place.
Human Editorial Responsibility
Editors remain fully responsible for all editorial decisions, communications, ethical judgments, and actions taken during the publication process, regardless of whether AI-assisted tools are used.
